The much-anticipated “2023 China (Shenzhen) Cross-border E-commerce Fair (CCBEC) – Intellectual Property Special Forum (Autumn)” was successfully held at the China (Shenzhen) Cross-border E-commerce Fair (CCBEC) on September 14, 2023. As one of the brand activities of TIIP International Forum (full name: International Forum on Technology Innovation and IP Protection), the Intellectual Property Special Forum at CCBEC aims to help cross-border e-commerce companies strengthen their capacities of utilizing effective IP portfolios to protect their benefits.
The special forum (Autumn) was available for live broadcast, attracting more than a hundred attendees to participate and hundreds of online audience. The forum focuses on the intellectual property challenges that cross-border e-commerce companies are facing, builds an effective platform for the exchange of IP policies and regulations for cross-border e-commerce industry, and promotes the healthy development of cross-border e-commerce ecosystem. The forum is also one of the brand activities of TIIP International Forum, specially set up for cross-border e-commerce industry. The forum was hosted by Shenzhen Merchants Exhibition Management Co., Ltd. and Technology Innovation and IP Protection Alliance (TIIPA), co-hosted by Shenzhen Bay Technology Development Co., Ltd., Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership), and Guangdong Fair Law Firm.
The forum started with a welcome speech from Mr. Wenqiu LIU, executive chairman of Technology Innovation and IP Protection Alliance (TIIPA) and Mr. Yongwen WANG, the founding partner of Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership) & Guangdong Fair Law Firm. First, Mr. LIU emphasized that although economic development has been greatly affected by the pandemic, cross-border e-commerce and intellectual property industry were keeping booming. Mr. LIU also pointed out that intellectual property plays an important role in the development of cross-border e-commerce. Then Mr. Yongwen WANG showed his sincere appreciation to all the related associations of the forum. Mr. WANG also cited some data to help cross-border e-commerce companies raise awareness of intellectual property.
The first guest speaker was Mr. Liwei FANG, a researcher at the National Intellectual Property Research Center of University of Algiers (Uni d’ Alger), Algeria. Mr. Fang presented a speech on the topic: Innovative Cooperation between RCEP and Cross-border E-commerce. Mr. Fang talked about the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce business in India and the Middle East, which involves a mass and dynamic collaboration between business operations, transportation, product selection, etc. Mr. Fang said it was necessary to build awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection on commodities and to develop the ability to master relevant laws and regulations, and the capacity of handling customs clearance and international logistics.
Next, Ms. Appoli SUN, partner of Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership), shared her constructive insights and suggestions on IP portfolios of cross border e-commerce companies. Ms. Appoli stressed the importance of utilizing effective IP portfolios for the protection of rights and interests of cross border e-commerce companies.
The third guest speaker was Dr. Qi ZHANG, principal patent & trademark attorney of Baxter IP (Australia). Dr. ZHANG introduced the prosecution of Australian invention, industrial design, and trademark applications in detail while comparing the characteristics of the intellectual property system in Australia from different dimensions.
Next, Mr. Weibin YANG, director of Tencent Business Security Cooperation, delivered his speech on how to achieve copyright & brand protection based on AI technology and IT ecological capabilities of Tencent. Mr. YANG specially analyzed how Tencent monitoring potential copyright infringements from different dimensions to protect the interests of companies.
Finally, Mr. Yancai LIU from Nulon Port International Supply Chain (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., shared with us the business compliance of cross-border e-commerce from three dimensions, which were industry status of cross-border e-commerce, policy analysis, and program planning of business compliance.
