On November 18, 2023, the Sixth International Forum on Technology Innovation and IP Protection (TIIP International Forum) was successfully held at the Peony Hall of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Guangdong, China. IP experts, scholars, and elites from well-known enterprises from home and abroad delivered speeches and shared experiences on the theme of “New Energy, New Materials, New Industries”. This forum was aimed to promote the effective integration of intellectual property, intellectual assets, and financial capital, and to promote the cooperation of university-industry cooperation.
The Sixth International Forum on Technology Innovation and IP Protection (TIIP International Forum) was hosted by Shenzhen Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Association and Technology Innovation and IP Protection Alliance (TIIPA), co-hosted by Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership), Guang Dong Fair Law Firm, Johnson International Intellectual Property Co., Ltd. (Hong Kong), Davies Collison Cave, Grünecker Patent- und Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB, and TRY International IP Law Firm.
The forum started with the opening speech delivered by Mr. Wenqiu LIU, president of Shenzhen Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Association, and Mr. Yongwen WANG, founding partner of Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership). Mr. Wenqiu LIU first strengthened how intellectual property plays an important role in the development of various industries and gave his best wishes for the success of the forum.
Then, Mr. Yongwen WANG declared that Johnson IP together with other members of Technology Innovation and IP Protection Alliance (TIIPA) will continue to make efforts to build a global communication IP platform based in Shenzhen, where all the guests get together for providing their fact-based and constructive viewpoints on IP practice.
The forum then moved on to the unveiling ceremony of Qilu – Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Consortium. The unveiling ceremony was conducted by Mr. Lianhua ZHANG, managing director of Shandong Collaborative Innovation Center of Industrial Technology and Mr. Wenqiu LIU, president of Shenzhen Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Association. Shandong Collaborative Innovation Center of Industrial Technology, as a major part of Energy Reform Projects between Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shandong Provincial People’s Government, is a science and technology innovation platform organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences Holdings Co., Ltd., Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province, and Jinan municipal people’s government, which integrates the important function of technology innovation, commercialization of scientific achievements, human capacity building, industrial development, capital investment, etc.
During the guest speech session, Mr. Yalei BI, director of Department of Business Development of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered his speech on the theme of “Realization of Industrial Value of Technological Innovation”. From an international perspective, Director BI emphasized that the government and our society need to focus on the impetus of human capacity building and discovering new demands for industrial innovation while making unremitting efforts to the development of basic technology, construction of platforms to comprehensively support scientific research work, protecting the value of scientific innovation with intellectual property rights, etc.
Mr. Yan ZHANG, Intellectual Property Director of RoboSense (Suteng Innovation Technology Co., LTD.), shared his experience of corporate intellectual property strategy, by explaining how RoboSense uses intellectual property rights to conduct business management and to protect its intangible assets from the aspect of management structure, strategic level, implementation level and resource level.
Mr. Yang LI, Intellectual Property Director of Dymind Biotechnology Co., Ltd., introduced how Dymind Biotechnology has made efficient use of IP portfolios for their biotechnology development and business management for a decade, emphasizing the importance of hierarchical management for patents.
In the session of overseas guests, Mr. Jian SUN, partner of TRY International IP Law Firm (Japan), presented his speech on the topic of “Comparison and Analysis of IP Portfolios between Chinese and American Electric Car Companies In Japan” by comparing the difference of the number and types of applications between China and America from three parts: trademark, industrial design, and invention, with detailed case studies.
Next, Mr. Thomas Griffiths, partner of Davies Collison Cave (DCC, Australia), introduced the overall situation of Australia’s energy resources and storage. Starting with the achievement and effort in IP protection for the energy industry by DCC, Mr. Griffiths shared some basic data on Australia’s energy resources and storage, then analyzed the the technology trends and governmental funding projects of new energy in Australia.
Lastly, Mr. Yilin JIN, partner of Grünecker Patent- und Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB (Germany), presented his speech with the topic of “Intellectual property risks of new energy, new materials and new industries in Germany”. Mr. JIN started with the sources of IP risks for the above-mentioned industries, then shared this enlightening experience of actual solutions from different stages, including the research and development stage, the marketing stage, and the sales stage.
The International Forum on Technology Innovation and IP Protection (TIIP International Forum) was built as an international-oriented forum during China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) and was initiated by Technology Innovation and IP Protection Alliance (TIIPA) annually since 2018, focusing on global IP cooperation, which aims to spur the development of technology innovation and intellectual property.
The TIIP International Forum has achieved big success in the past five years (2018-2022) and has attracted around 4,000 guests and audiences participated, received high praise, and reported widely at home and abroad by renowned media.
